I'm just fucked with the fraction

multiply the bottom equation by 2
then add the equations, the y's will cancel (it's why I choose 2). Solve that for x. Plug that value back into the first equation, solve for y.

2*.5x+y=6
x+y=6
x=6-y

divide both sides by 8
6-y=10/8
-y=(10/8)-6
y=-4.75
y=9/2

on point.

8x=2y+10
4x=y+5
4x-5=y

.5x+4x-5=6
4.5x-5=6
4.5x=11
x=11/4.5

(1/2)*(11/4.5)+y=6
(11/9)+y=6
y=34/9

Something doesnt seem right in mine...but I am pretty sure the one ripper and hollydell posted is incorrect.
