Hi, I'm working on exponents and radical functions help. We learned a lot of material on the last day before Spring Break and I'm struggling to remember how to get the work done. A refresher would be a huge help so I can complete the rest of my assignments.. If any of you could go through step by step and explain your work, I'll greatly appreciate it :) just answering these few should help me be able to finish the rest of the assignment, as most of the problems are similar to these

4. sqrt (a / (b^3)

5. 5th root (a^2)/5th root (b^2)

6. sqrt (5a^4)/sqrt(5a^3)

Rationalize the denominators & simplify

you want to multiply the denominator and numerator by some value that will get rid of the radical in the denominator. Typically the value you want is the denominator raised to some power.

for #4

thank you :)

gonna pm you about an additional question i have from a different problem later in the section

edit; you don't have pm access

was just going to ask:

i was wondering if you could help / answer check with another one

sqrt(100ab)/ 5(sqrt 2)

i did this one on my own and came up with sqrt(2ab) as my final answer, is this correct?

sqrt(100ab)/[5*sqrt(2)] i assume - note: why can't american write formulas properly? could as well be [sqrt(100ab)/5]*sqrt(2) because no brackets :bonk:

sqrt(100ab) / [5*sqrt(2)] = sqrt(100)*sqrt(ab) / [5*sqrt(2)] = 10*sqrt(ab) / [5*sqrt(2)] = 2*sqrt(ab) / sqrt(2) now with 2=sqrt(2)^2 it results in sqrt(2)*sqrt(ab) = sqrt(2ab)

so it seems you got the result right ;)

all the uhhh "less experienced" people make that mistake!

Actually I've been tutoring my friends kid, she's a freshman in high school. I saw her doing something the other day with a calculator and I was impressed at her ability to enter statements like this accurately.

there are probably quite a few who can answer your questions
and posting the questions here allows others to learn from them as well
