Which of the following elements has the smallest first ionization energy?
A. Potassium
B. Sodium
C. Calcium
D. Magnesium

I have been told Potassium and Sodium. Which one is it?

potassium. ionization energy is the energy required to remove an electron from outer most orbital away. elements in the first group are much more stable when they lose one electron = less energy required to get to that state. as for potassium vs sodium, well potassium is a larger element = larger atomic radius = electrons more spaced out. further spaced out electrons = easier to pull off.
