The concern is that this will "explode". Based on Wikipedia, the only way this will explode is a steam explosion. I know nothing about steam explosions or how to tell if this will explode when the water level reaches the bowl. The bowl and contents of the bowl will not cause a chemical explosion with the water. Let me know what you guys think. 25-50 fg for helpful answers or information.

Depending on what the bowl is made of, and the contents of the bowl.
If the bowl is made of glass, yes, it will break/explode. But if the bowl is made of plastic, it will just melt.

It won't explode, except at a micro level.

If the bowl is made of brittle material that somehow didn't melt at 620C, then it might shatter when dunked in water.

Dunking heated metal (for instance Steel) at 800-900C into water is how you make Martensite (harden it via heat treating).

If the bowl is made out of steel for instance, it will do nothing but just harden the steel.

tldr: Its reaction depends on the material, none of which are explosion if there is no chemical reaction.

What would be the definition of an explosion? Creating more steam than you want? Seems kind of subjective.

its for an aluminum casting process, the bowl is probably some sort of ceramic material and it contains aluminum

laughed hard

but no, explosion is a process created when the volume of the substances increases very fast, so its the pressure from the rapid volume expanding that creates what we call an explosion. so no gasses to form --> no rapid volume expansion --> no explosion
