Give me a minute. I'll help with this ! Just need to dig up something.

E: I'll need to look it up, but iirc the formula is somewhere along the lines of A(t) = Pe^rt

e2: Looks like Triton did it, guess its the formula I was planning on using :baby:

plug in 20,000 for P, then solve for t.

20000=16968e^(.019t)

divide both sides by 16968:
1.17869 = e^(.019t)

next take ln of both sides:
ln (1.17869) = ln (e^(.019t))
ln (1.17869) = .019t

then divide both sides by .019:

8.65 = t

if t=1 represents 1991, then t=8.65 represents 1998
So the population will reach 22 million sometime during 1998

Why would you plug in 20000?

And the answer in the back of the book says 2003 :(

It's in the thousands

I'll try doing it.

E: He did 20,000 in beginning instead of 22,000

22,000 = 16,968e^0.019t

.019t ln e = ln 1.297
.019t = 0.260
t = 13.68

E: I'm getting 2005 as it's 2004.68.

you plug in 22000 because P is measured in thousands.

I see I started with the wrong plug-in value!
Change 20000 to 22000 and work it the same way
