need help distinguishing them. I get very confused to their relations to both solutes and solvents

just think of it from the point of view of water.


water with low solute concentration relative to a cell thrown in will want to go into the cell because there is little solute outside the cell and high amount of solute inside the cell ( it wants to make concentrations equal).

a cell thrown into a hypertonic solution will shrivel up as water exits the cell to create equal concentrations of solute inside and outside ( little to no solute inside the cell relative to the water outside the cell means the water inside the cell will exit in an attempt to dilute the high solute concentration outside the cell in the water)
