break them up into ions to determine charge. charge tells you which column in the periodic table they're in.

I think its B.
I take X to be Sodium, Y to be Magnesium, and Z to be Aluminum.
XF would be Sodium Fluoride.
YF2 would be Magnesium Fluoride.
ZF3 would be Aluminum Fluoride.
