I know P+Q=1 and P^2+2PQ+Q^2=1 but I really stink at putting together the information. So if someone could solve this and provide and explanation that would be great.

A population exhibits complete dominance for black fur(B) with white fur b as the recessive trait. Sixteen percent of the population shows the white phenotype.
1. What is the frequency of the black B allele?
2. What is the frequency of the heterozygous phenotype?

So white is recessive and 16% or 0.16 are white. Q^2 is equal to the amount of white furs. So the ratio of q allele is sqrt of 0.16 = 0.4 = q
P+q = 1 so ratio of p allele (black) = 0.6

So the frequency of p allele (black) is 60% of alleles.
The amount of heteros is 2*p*q = 2*0.6*0.4
