If something is moving 100% faster than something, it is moving double. So then I always assumed 200% faster meant 2x as fast, but I was thinking

If you are going 50mph, and then your speed is increased by 100%, you would be going 100mph, or 2x as fast. So by the same token 200% increase of 50 would be 150, or 3x faster. So while people assume 200% to be 2x and 300 to be 3x etc it is actually 100% = 2x. 200%= 3x 300%= 4x etc etc ?

Or am I making a mistake ? Realize this may be super obvious but for some reason I had always thought the % of the number was indicative of the increase, like 1000% faster meant 10x faster

you're the only one who thinks that.

if you're going 200% your normal speed, you're going 2x as fast. if you're going 200% faster than your normal speed, you're going 100% + 200% = 3x as fast.

There's is a difference depending on how you word it.

If x is 100% of y, they are the same value. If x is 200% of y, then x is 2y.

If x is greater by 100% of y, then x=2y. If x is greater by 200% of y, then x=3y.

nothing to do with logic but with language usage
and some of the usage of percentages in everyday english are highly confusing
ie don't make mathematical sense, especially when using percentages for reductions/improvements
