Both of the sulfur-chlorine single bonds in SCl2 are polar. In which direction should the polarity arrows point?

to the right
to the left
toward the central sulfur atom
away from the central sulfur atom

I'd like to know why too. Finals is on Monday...which is the day that will be the end of me :(

d, only opposites attract (which would make it move toward the center)

right/left is ambiguous and you can see that they are clearly wrong answers to throw you off

it would be C when you have a non-polar +polar leading to attraction

Non Polar+ polar? Yo :(, i'm really bad at this polar stuff. Can you explain more about it?

polar/non-polar basically just refers to the charge of the ion.

in physics, opposites always attract but in this case we have a completely polar bond so instead of moving toward the center of the atom, it will move outward

How do we tell if its polar or non polar based on charge of the ion?

i meant bonds not ions; it tells u in the problem

wouldn't you just look at electronegativity differences? chlorine is more electronegative than sulfur, so the arrow would point more towards the chlorine and away from the central sulfur
