1. The architect wished to buy a house; there needed to be a lot of refurbishing in order to do the work himself. - there either needs to be a semicolon or period here because these are 2 related, disparate ideas
2. Mary did not want to rely on her son being able to bike home safely. - omit "that," because it is unnecessary
3. He was told to run back to the house as quickly as possible to lock the door. - quick is used as an adverb here and as such an ly must be attached for the sentence to be correct
4. She was standing and watching the children playing in the snow for a long time. - the start of the sentence suggests this is present tense but the use of "were" makes the sentence inconsistent and therefore needs to be omitted
5. At the hospital, the doctors claimed that the news was not all bad. comma needed "At the hospital," to signify a short pause and ALSO "news" is singular so it should be described by "was" NOT "were." -
6. After dinner, the little boy said that he had been bullied a lot that day at school. - again need a comma "After dinner," and ALSO replace "was" with "had" because it is attached to "been" OR you can simply omit "been" from the sentence.
7. After the president has given his speech tomorrow, he will allow for questions from the press. - sentence is future tense, so you must write the president "will" allow
8. The prospect seemed wonderful when he first heard about it. -prospect is a noun and thus must be attached to "wonderful" and NOT "wonderfully"
