So, I took a bunch of gen-ed classes in high school, and changed my major after my Freshman year, so I'm done with all my gen-ed requirements. All I have left go towards my major (Computer Science) and minor (which I haven't declared yet...)

Since I'm new to this major, I have to take a bunch of pre-reqs, so will only have like 3 or 4 classes next semester, and want to take 5 or 6, pending difficulty xD

This semester, I'm taking 4 classes towards my major, and German 101 just as a filler. I was thinking I'd continue with it to try to become fluent (I've always wanted to learn German).
I had 2.5 years of Spanish in high school, and I think it might be nice to pick that up again and go with two languages (something that might actually be useful in the future)
Or, if I don't go with two languages, I guess I'm just looking for something fun or interesting. This wouldn't be very useful, but who knows, I might find something I enjoy.

Anyone have any suggestions?

You don't have to get a minor unless you really have that many extra hours.

As an Engineer myself, I don't see the point in having a minor, but I definitely didn't have enough time to get one since I had to get out in four years with a double major, so I couldn't afford any extra classes.

If I could take extra classes I would take other engineering classes. To be honest I would take a java class because I like programming, but I'm not a CS major.

Fuck the german, take the spanish. Take spanish and some maths. Go for useful subjects over "fun" ones, because the most fun you'll have is sitting at the uni pub drinking beer and talking to bitches, not during lectures.

foreign languages are often easy As also. if you wanted to learn german, then you should go for it.

like the other guy said, dont bother with a minor. spend your electives more effectively. either pick easy A classes or classes you like. personally i did premed requirements, though i wish i took all foreign languages instead.

Take German or Spanish classes that would contribute to a minor for that language. Minors are always good. And if you decide that you don't want to do it later, then at least you took a buncha Spanish like you wanted to do.

At my school, we are required to have a minor, or a double major I guess.
I'm already taking German, and if I continue with any language, it will be German. I was just thinking, if I need the credits, I will probably take Spanish in addition to German.
More Math classes is a possibility, I guess. I already have 12-15 Math credits, and need 21 for a minor. However, I'm really tired of Math, and looking forward to being done with it, so idk.

As for other classes, I was looking for suggestions at what other people thought were fun/interesting classes I could look into.

nothing against german (my first language) but wouldn't spanish be more useful in the usa?
what do you want to do with your cs degree?
if you just want to end up as an average programmer it doesn't really matter what other subjects you take
but economics or business might be an advantage going for a job
and if you want to do something more advanced with cs then math is certainly the right complementing subject
plus math is the right subject if you are looking for fun/interesting classes

what kind of engy are you? i was thinking of going back to school at some point to do electrical since that would go nicely with my CS education



@OP: look into film classes if you have them. i always found them enjoyable and chose them as my fillers whenever possible. if you are planning to create games, film makes sense because creating games essentially turns you into a director, lol.

where i went to school, CS was a part of the math dpt. usually you need to do calculus+other stuff as prereqs, but i guess this is based on where you're getting your education (lucky me lol).

i would not recommend a cs major to take extra math classes unless truly in-love with math... XD

don't forget that cs/it are just spin-offs from automata theory a tiny branch of applied mathematics

probably, but ive found myself using a lot of math i learned early on in uni even in present day when im coding. a lot of algebra and math i thought was useless turned out to be very helpful, especially for graphics courses...shit is math intensive lol
