Okay so this is a question\ from my test that I'm being allowed to remediate so I don't want to cheat and have you guys tell me the answer for that question but hoped you could explain so that I can figure it out.

1. The question from the test is: compared to a solution of pH3, a solution of pH1 is A) 100 times more basic, B) 100 times more acidic, C)10 times more basic, D) 10 times more acidic. I put C and got it wrong. So can someone show me how to do a similar problem like say compared to a solution of pH3, A solution of ph1 is?
I'm sure its easy but I don't know the math to figure it out, all I know is 0-7 is acidic, 7 is in between and 8-14 is a basic solution.

As the pH apparently is based on log 10, 1 is more acidic than 2 and 1 is two steps lower than 3, I would say it would be 100 times more acidic. (10*10=100 and 1 is more acidic than 3)

I'm not sure tho, as I just googled some information.

pH = -log([H+])

pH =1 :
1 = -log([H+])
[H+] = 10^-1
[H+] = 0.1

pH = 3 :
3 = -log ([H+])
[H+] = 10^-3
[H+] = 0.001

you want to compare pH 1 to pH 3 so : (0.1/0.001) = 100.
