For whatever reason my calc 2 prof finds it necessary to tell us to write a sonnet about functions and limits. could use some inspiration.

the first stanza if the sonnet requires it to describe what a function is. the other 2 and the couplet should be about limits

lol well its a calc class, so if i get graded on how great the poem is im not going to be happy.

let's see if i can beat it on the down slide

a function is a very ugly beast
always crossing the lines in calculus
about which i know barely (*) the least
but how it works is just miraculous

(*) all three syllables pronounced

Composing sonnets... this is what our future scientists/engineers are doing in calc class...

do you understand the structure of a sonnet?
if more 'future scientists ...' could think outside their piddly little area of knowledge we might actually get a little more progress

Im paying good money for my education. Im a mechanical engineering major and my time is better spent doing more important things



I agree on that, however, poetry is noy one of those things. its pointless

studying a variety of subjects opens the mind
but i have to add that i did not have to pay tuition where i studied
and mechanical engineers don't really need to have an open mind

well i got a different take on the assignment. To me it seems to be challenging you to rephrase the definitions in your own words, making sure you really understand them. (copy and pasting the definitions from a source won't make a very good sonnet )
