Barry recently sold some stock after holding it for two years. The stock's price rose 150% during the first year, but fell %40 in the second year. At what price he did he buy the stock if he sold it for $24 per share?

150%-40% = 110% of 24 is 21.8

whoops;

1.50*(original)= y

y(.60) = 24.

Solve for y, gives it 40.

Solve for original it gives 26.6

assuming there are no charges or whatever:

he sold the stock at 60% of the 250% value after the first year, so the $24 was $40 after the first year and $16 at the start

to verify start with $16, increase it by 150% ie by $24 to $40 from which he lost 40% ie $16 which gives a final value of $24

First year evolution : x 2.5 (+150%)
Second year evolution : x 0.6 (-40%)

Overall evolution : x 2.5 x 0.6 = x 1.5

Final price = 24$
Initial price = 24 / 1.5 = 16$

This. But $26.68 because rounding.

This if it actually gained 150% and not 50%.
