well i can just add a little. HIV virus is deadly because
1) destroys cd4+ t helper lymphocites, aka "memory cells". they regulate how other immune cells operate, which is the main problem. most immune cells require cd4+ cells to send them instructions as to what to kill and what not to, without cd4+ ones it all becomes one giant mess.
2) its literally impossible to make an immune response against hiv, due to two main reasons:
- it uses an enzyme called "reverse transcriptase" to make DNA out of its RNA chain and incorporate into the cell DNA. the danger here is in the "imperfection" of that enzyme system. when our cells replicate, we have many DNA repair mechanisms that make the daughter cells the same, or at least extremely similar to mother cells. hiv doesnt have that, making it very susceptible to mutations. and when it mutates, the antibodies no longer can catch it, because...well, its not anymore what they have been told to catch

- it can incorporate into the cell genome so even if you destroy it by non-immune mechanisms (drugs), it gets saved in some cells, and just attacks when it gets another chance
as for question 2, i dont really know how they mean it. if they mean by mechanism, well pretty much any retrovirus does the same thing, not just hiv. also there are a lot of inherited diseases that lack a part of the immune system, you can use those. but i dont really know any infective diseases that behave the same like hiv, except the monkey version of the virus (SIV)
