The azide ion (N3-) is a linear triatomic molecule. Using the D2h approximation (i) derive
SALCs corresponding to the terminal N atoms and determine their symmetry
representation; (ii) Determine the representations for the s and p orbitals on the central
atom; (iii) Create a reasonable MO diagram labeling orbitals as σ, σ*, π, π*, or nb; (iv)
Determine the bond order and comment on how it compares to the Lewis Dot diagram for
this molecule.

PtH4^2- adopts a square planar geometry. (i) Determine the point group for this molecule;
(ii) Generate SALCs for the H atoms using resource section 5; (iii) Determine the
representations for the d orbitals on the central atom; (iv) Given that the d-orbitals are
closest in energy to the H 1s orbitals, determine which orbitals can overlap with the H
SALCs and generate a reasonable MO diagram.
