long time since i had pathophysiology, but i guess the purpura is the result of an underlying vasculitis

lupus is a type 3 hypersensitivity reaction, immune complexes are deposited throughout the body. when in blood vessel walls, they cause inflammation, the immune system attacks the vessel and thats called vasculitis. you can see those on skin above as purpura.
