the amount of food energy per day required by hikers is modeled by the equation e=125 (t-122) where e is the amount of good energy in kilojoules (kj) and t is the outside temperature in degrees celsius

1) the outside temperature is -20 degrees Celsius how much food energy is required per day?

2)If a hiker consumes 19000 kj of food energy based on the outside temperature what is the temperature

please help got no fg :(

okay i can try but "e=125 (t-122)" you meant e=125*(t-122) ?

edit: also 122 and 125 are in..what? kelvins? :wacko:

You are right, that function is wacked (if you try plugging in some reasonable numbers you will see what I mean, like t=20 or t=0). I believe the actual model is:

E(t)=-125*(t-122)

Now using the version of the function I wrote above:

E(-20)=-125*(-20-122) = 17750 kj

t-122=19000/-125
t=(19000/-125) + 122
t = -30 c
