One of the biggest problems we have in communicating with others is listening. It is very easy to speak, but very hard to listen. This is not a true quiz, but an exercise that will help you, hopefully, learn to be a better listener. Follow the exercise for the next few days, and then come back to this quiz and tell me your observations about how you felt while being an active listener, how being an active listener helped (or hurt) you, how others responded to your active listening, and how you feel being an active listener can change the way you communicate with others in the future.
There are no wrong or right answers to this exercise, but I want each of you to put some thought into this. Being an active listener can help with your relationships, with your job, and even with the way strangers perceive you.
You must write the answers to this exercise in complete sentences, and I expect you to put some thought into the answers. As I stated, there are no right or wrong answers, but you will be graded according to the thoroughness and thought you put into this assignment. Also, be sure to give me specific examples. Don't tell me what conversations you had, but say something like "when I actively listened to my spouse, he responded like ...".
Then come back to the assignment and post a summary of who your conversation was with, how you acted, how they responded, what the outcome was, etc. Also explain whether you felt that this exercise helped you be a better listener and why, and tell us if the other person noticed and commented on it.
