As I mentioned earlier - there's no such thing as ... and then a number, as far as I know.  Saying "After infinity, put this digit" is utterly meaningless.

I didn't say it was particularly rigorous, I just said it was correct and I had yet to see anyone poke a hole in it.  If someone can poke a hole in it, then we can go with something with more rigor.

I just did poke a hole in it, you moron.

.999...goes on infinitely approaching 1 but it never reaches 1.
Just like a hyperbola that you can graph...it approaches the asymptotes forever but NEVER touches them.
It gets as close as possible to 1 yet it is still that tiny bit away.

okay, by this logic movement is impossible :

Suppose you want to move forward one meter. To do this you must first move 1/2 a meter, and then 1/4 , 1/8 etc etc

so you have 1/2+1/4+1/8+1/16+...
it will never reach 1 (according to your argument)

rebuttle?

Your premise is false, your assuming that there are an infinite distance between point A and B. Murder567 is right, .9999 does not equal to 1, it approaches 1 but not exactly 1. close this stupid thread.
