Here is a proof I just did for you kiddies.

EDIT: ignore the last part of line 3, was going to give a different name, but decided not to and forgot to take that part out before I ss'd.

but .999... is infinite, it is just a representation of a finite number

it actually represents 9/10 + 9/100 + 9/1000 and so on...

u cant take away the supposed amount you would like to take away... this what .00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000... Where does the 1 go? o wait...

there is no spot for the .0...1 , cuz its infinite... ~~ limited understanding, you cannot take away this .0...1 from 1 unless you can define the number you intend to subtract

CPK001, write the equation...

here ill help u

.9999999... + X = 1

damn or how about

1 - X = .999999...

what does x = ?

~~ and for Hotdog you like google so much

http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=does+.9999+equal+1&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

heres another simple proof for u non-believers

1/9 = .111...
2/9 = .222...
3/9 = .333...
and so on
8/9 = .888...
now for the sake of argument lets say that u dont know that 9/9 = 1

so
.999999999999
9/ 9
-81
9
-81
9
-81... and so on

OFC it = 1 but so does .999...

You want the equation? That will take too much work and I don't spend a lot of time on pointless arguments.

1
0.9999999999...

Same thing except that 0.999999999999 isn't a whole number like 1 is.

All we do is round off 0.99999 to make it 1 to make it easy.

1/3 may = 0.333333

2/3 may = 0.666666
Then some people make that = 0.67

so 3/3 surely does = 0.999999
However, to make it simple we just say that 3/3 = 1

As we each get 1 piece of the cake cut up into 3 pieces and if we put the cake back together with our 3 pieces we get 1 whole cake. (Forget the crumbs btw, unless that is what you are referring to with the 0.000000000000.......1)

It's not rounded, they are the same number.

1/3 does not equal 0.34, 2/3 does not equal 0.67, those are approximations.

No 1/3 does not equal 0.34 because 3 is closer to 0 than it is to the 10.

We round 0.67 up because the 6 is closer to the 10 than it is to the 0.

Now we round up 0.99 to 1 because the 9 is closer to the 10 than it is to the 0.

That argument was retarded.

0.9999... = 1 is not rounding, they ARE EQUAL.
