He's referring to the fact that 1/3 = 0.3333..., and 3*(1/3) would look like 0.9999 as many other already have.

people dont understand what Infinity is...

we could fill the entire universe with the number .999... in this size font, and it would keep going...

i think the reason people want to say that 1 =/= .999... is their limited understanding of the Infinite...

Those of you who can't realize that .99999... = 1, you're clearly not mathematically inclined. There are so many proofs, ranging from the simple "1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3" proof to proofs using real analysis. And if you think 1 is merely an approximation for .99999..., you're still wrong. PM me if you think otherwise, I'm in the mood for a good laugh.

There are two schools of thought on this, and it depends whether you're working in real numbers or complex numbers.

Basically the idea behind 0.999 repeating = 1 is that if you take the following:

1 = 1/2 * 1/4 * 1/8 * ... * 1/2^n

You will have to continue to infinity. If you can do so, then 1 = 0.999repeating
because you get infinitely close to 1.

If you cannot create an infinite series 1 =/= 0.999999
