Basic Order of Operations.

1. Exponents
2. Multiplication/Division
3. Addition/Subtraction

You can separate the multiplication and division steps with parentheses to make it easier to read:

= 2 + 2 - (1x3) + (1/2) +5

Complete multiplication/Division:

= 2 + 2 - 3 + .5 + 5

Complete addition/Subtraction:

= 6.5
