that this is a struggle to materialise and prove a feeling(love) is possible and people do that. However it hasnt much weight in comparison. It is the gesture or the willingness to do such a thing that betrays the feelings behind it.
It matters that they WOULD sacrifice treasured posessions for their loved ones that show they love each other.
However the morale is that souch sacrifices are seldom necessary in love. Gifts are nice, but material sacrifices are usually pointless, because they prove nothing that could not be proven otherwise.
that means:
if you love someone, you dont have to prove them by sacrificing yourself or your material things.
that would be pointless
