when you have f(x) and f(x+1)
your f(x+1) gets there quicker, think of it that way
think your f() as a magic box
x+1, means you can put in 1 less than what you would of needed before to get the same thing?
this is all so because the +x is inside of the parenthesis

f(x) +1, 1 being outside means just simply whole thing gets shifted one up
