a basic primer:
\ is used for special commands
\\=new line
\sqrt{x} = square root of x
_ is used for subscript
x_2 = x subscript 2
^ is used for superscript/exponent
x^2 = x squared
{} is used for complicated stuff so
x^{-3y} = x to the power of -3y
many symbols can be guessed for example:
\pi = is symbol for pi
\theta = symbol for theta
