The aerobic cellular respiration equation is C6H12O6 + 6O2 → 6CO2 + 6 H2O + 36 or 38 ATP
We are using glucose + oxygen to "create" carbon dioxide, water, and energy (ATP)
I'm not sure the level of class you're taking so I'll just provide a general outline
cell respiration begins with glucose
in a process called
glycolysis one molecule of glucose is broken down into pyruvate
pyruvate can take one of two steps here
1) continue with respiration (aerobic or anaerobic)
2) undergo fermentation and produce carbon dioxide + ethanol OR lactic acid
if we continue with (1) we undergo the "acetyl CoA step"
where acetyl CoA + CO2 are produced
acetyl CoA then goes through the Krebs cyle
one turn of the Krebs makes 3 NADH, 2 CO2, 1 FADH2, and 1 ATP
the electron transport system (ETS which is unique to aerobic / anerobic respiration in other words, fermentation does NOT use it) uses electrons from NADH / FADH2 to power it
ETS in turn directly powers ATP synthase which is responsible for "converting" ADP into ATP
electrons from NADH (NADH -> NAD+ + H+) "jump" from cell to cell in a sort of cascade
this energy pumps H+ ions out of the cell (this pumping is called chemiosmosis)
H+ cells come back down a gradient and turn ATP synthase
