i would say chines blade/shield u can play pretty alone, or spear, i made both of these but now im on my wizard ^^ pretty nice

up

if you're going to play mostly on your own, take a chinese character (all of'em are good to play solo)
but if you have some friend to play with, you better take a euro one

Chinese char do light/fire/spear
i think thats the best place to start imo.
its int build but you get extra hp from bottom skill on spear
