This is a discussion on GPS spoofing. This is not a guide on how you can root or jailbreak your smartphone. There are guides for that on YouTube and specific Android and iOS websites.
I am not responsible nor liability if you pursue these methods. There's no really specific order to my points for each section.

Benefits of using a GPS spoofer for rooted Android or jailbroken iOS smartphones:

1. You can walk around without actually walking.
- Teleport to anywhere in the world for less than $60/year (if you sign up for a premium subscription to a VPN app) as long as there's a VPN server you can connect to for a specific country.

2. Save time and money.
- If you want to go to a populated area such as downtown, you have to find parking for your car and pay for the parking. It could be free but most of the time, it isn't.
- Since you're out in public, if you want to eat and drink something or use the bathroom, you have to buy something at a restaurant or store before they allow you to use their bathroom and it may not be clean.
- People and car traffic; self explanatory.

3. Weather is not an issue.

4. Safety
- You can play it anytime you want to. Heck you can put a lure at nearby park in the middle of night if you wanted too because no one can rob you, since you're at home.

5. Catch rare Pokemons using Pokevision-map alternative tracker service on your computer versus trying to multitask on your smartphone.
- Also you have plenty of time to get to the Pokemon versus playing legitimately.
- The city blocks on the map in the game look small but in real life, they are huge and don't forget to include all the other people who are out there around you. Took me about 10 minutes to pass one large downtown city block. I had to cross 4 city blocks to get to a Gengar but didn't make it in time when I played legitimately.

6. Access to your own power outlets.

7. Learn to root or jailbreak a smartphone and develop new skills.

Downside to using a GPS spoofer:

1. You void your smartphones warranty even though your smartphone's warranty was already expired.
- If you want to buy extended warranty, it won't cover your rooted or jailbroken smartphone.

2. Without proper research, you can fuck up your phone with a "hard brick" meaning you would need to send your phone to a specialize company for them to restore your phone or buy a new one. "Soft brick" or bootloop on Android smartphones are user repairable by flashing stock firmware or restoring a full backup with TWRP recovery (or the other one). As for iPhones, I don't know how the jailbreaks works.

Other thoughts that may or may not be a downside to you:

1. No confirm bans for GPS spoofers
- As of right now, there hasn't been any permanent bans for rooted and jailbroken GPS spoofers.
- There are bans for those were using a bot.
- For sure, there are softbans (may be flagging you) by making all pokemons runaway after the first throw and pokestop gives you nothing.

2. Lack of exercise.
- If you aren't physically active before playing this game, it isn't going to make a difference.

3. Lack of social interactions.
- This one is kind of weird because there are other adults playing the game but most aren't willing to talk or hang out with you, since they're busy playing the game too.
- They may have kids with them and don't want to talk to strangers.
- Ton of people just loitering (just standing there and looking at their smartphone) at major pokestops, and they could be blocking your way if you're trying to walk to somewhere.
- If you do make new friends, you can add them to Facebook and other social media sites.

4. "It's cheating!"
- The world is already unfair. You got people not following driving laws. People scamming for forum gold. People stealing at work or at school.
- No one really knows you're cheating except for Niantic unless you tell someone you're using a GPS spoofer.
- Most people, I've met outside playing Pokemon GO, would love to use a GPS spoofer, but they know they can't because of those two downside points I listed above.
- Cheating in Pokemon Go doesn't affect the other players around you unlike in Counter Strike: Global Offensive where you can get derank if a member on your team was caught using aimbot or wallhacks.

Are you really looking for excuses to justify ur gps spoofing?
You can play at night without getting robbed? Are you serious? What about people breaking into ur house to steal stuff and u're home, then they might have to kill you?
Do you want me to start to put down positives for you?

"- If you aren't physically active before playing this game, it isn't going to make a difference."
I can't even tell if you're serious? So if you're not moving anything at the time you might just not do it at all? Of course getting outside to walk and move around is making a difference, thinking else is just being ignorant.
Also, you cant use other people stealing to justify that you are cheating. "That guy is speeding I might just aswell gps spoof in pokemon."

This is a whole new level of retardness.

Try posting that on Reddit. Fucking reddit sucks, a big circlejerk of manchildren who still tattle.

I tried posting a story about spoofing and legit players still being ahead if they live in the city, they pulled the post because it apparently "sympathizes and promotes cheating".

No one cares that you're a fat tub of lard who spoofs his location on a mobile app to catch virtual creatures.

It's okay to be jealous, I can GPS spoof and you can't but just keep your personal insecurities to yourself. I just realized someone just got affected by my GPS spoofing, which is

Played legit to level 28 and 142/145 Pokedex.

Spoofed the last 3 Pokemon.

Spoofing is more fun then playing legit in my opinion.

Spend 6 hours "walking" around Manhattan to get a Dragonite, Charizard and Gyrados or Spend a month at a local hotspot...

Spoofing it is.

cheating gives you an advantage?!?..

Awesome, you figure that out yourself?

Looks like all the time you're saving by spoofing is paying off nicely

lol I doubt it.
They've got their hands full keeping up with glitches, bots and exploits.
Unfortunately that's why I don't see them adding any worthwhile content / features anytime soon
