I'm not sure of what else you can do in the new ones, but at the base of it all, being higher level than the pokemon you are fighting makes things easy.
Also, don't they give ya a Lucario with it's mega evolve thing in the course of the game?
And well, ya, grabbing two more poke's wouldn't hurt. Usually, when I use to play storywise, I'd have 5 poke's for battle and an hm slave.

yea ive got an hm slave whos lvl 19 lol, and lucario was rough going, using my blastoise for the mega evolve, my levels are 3-4 higher than what i face usually. im around 60-63

gotta hunt some more cool pokemon i guess "_" could use a neat fire pokemon, or a gyradose or something badass!

Well, while I did not get into gen 4 much as much as past ones, I know that Lucario is a stable spec and physical attacker usually.
But then again, he may suck in the current gens far as I know.
And usually, 10+ levels is safe enough. But hey, it may have changed dramatically between now and then I may no longer have a clue about it.

is an iv 5-6 gyradose 10x better than a regular one?

A fully trained one will of course be stronger than one who is not.
