if i DLed the game onto SD card, would i still be able to put my game saves and patches onto the 3ds itself

I doubt it, Some of the information is saved on the cartridge.
unless you use some 3rd party software (like powersave) i belive...

looking for a confirmation before i attempt to dl it.

gf just got a 3ds and i thought id take advantage of that and get pokemon, not in any rush but if someone can confirm i can dl onto sd card and put my game save files + updates onto the 3ds then fk ya ill dl it in a heart beat, over night :]

this is confirmed.

You cannot simply just move it, it must be moved from the original games cartridge.
