Water only team sounds kinda fun, ive done it before but never with a challenge like this.

I did something similiar but water pokes can handle bout any type.
They can learn Ice beam/blizzard-Earthquake-some learn dark type moves.
And Lanturn is half electric.
Do normal types as a challenge.
They can learn multi-type attacks but they usually have low defense/special attack and they do not get bonus' added to diff type attacks.

I started once a normal-only pokémon challenge, were you could only have a Pokémon once (2 Sorlax, 3 Ratatas, etc isn't allowed). Use your starter only to beat your rival and catch a Ratata, and then release it. Then you have to stick with that Ratata all the way to Mt Moon until you catch a Jigglypuff and a Clefairy, etc. Beating the first gym is hell though... It's interesting because there are actualy few normal-only pokémon... never got to finish it though because my save was deleted and I didn't feel like going through all that Ratata training again -_-

Only pure normal Pokémon count, so you're better off doing this on a Blue version so you can use Persian.

no, no... they must be copletely normal, no hybrid types. These:

Rattata
Raticate
Clefairy
Clefable
Jigglypuff
Wigglytuff
Meowth
Persian
Lickitung
Chansey
Kangaskhan
Tauros
Ditto
Eevee
Porygon
Snorlax

If you use a water/flying one to surf/fly you can't use them in battle, leaving you a set of only 5 Pokémon

Like I said. Pidgeot isn't a strong pokemon, I just would want one to fly.
I could deal with 5, shrug. The bike in early versions suck in terms of speed.

Oh, I misunderstood you. Yeah, a set of 5 is enough... in fact I think a team with Snorlax and two of either Persian, Raticate or Tauros, sounds like it can do the job.
