pokemmo is a super good way to start. ive had it installed for a while now, and i think when u install it you have to go online to a rom website and grab 1 of the game files it supports. i chose pokemon Red or Blue which is the gameboy color gen 1 version of the game.
but you can also start in 1 of the other towns from a later game. last i looked i think pokemmo supported like 6 versions of pokemon (theres like 20 now)
if you are looking for something a little more fast paced, i would recommend getting an emulator with a turbo button and playing single player. The fight scenes and talking take up a lot of time, but with a turbo button on an emulator you can just instant right passed the boring chit chat and go straight to the fighting. using the turbo button ive completed pokemon red and blue in just a couple hours
hope this helps!
fyi, you can also put these emulators on your phone, and theres some stand alone games that dont require an emulator for android, you can just download pokemon red or blue and start playing with a turbo button. word of caution tho, 1 of them that i downloaded did run and the game worked fine and was fun, but the app from android contained malware.
Everything about this is true.
I also have the links if someone's having trouble finding the ROMs I use Vimms Lair. It's pretty darn safe.
