Start there build up some skills then consider Adobe Photoshop.

i think either cs4 or cs5 is free now but i don't think you should do gimp. i started on gimp and it just caused problems for me when i made the switch. although when i switched i did get a large jump in progression basically overnight. but still it took a lot of gimping and you could develope faster using PS from the start

can you point me in the right direction for either or? its non trial right?
