I am using an old version of photoshop cs3 that I got years ago. I never really messed with it much but I have the basics down. I have been using it to design myself a new sig but I am stuck with 2 things.

First off, I do not think it offers much as far as fonts and custom text so I would like to know a free program or trial program that is good for text.

Second I can not seem to figure out how to reduce the quality of my sig I made to reign in its file size. does anyone know an easy way to do this?

any help would be great!

Photoshop doesn't come with fonts, you'd need to download and install them from other sites
There's a few in this post near the end:

To reduce the quality it would depend on what kind of file you want to save it as
If you go to File -> Save for web and devices, it gives you more saving options
If it's a JPEG then you can easily decrease the quality (sliding the bar up or down)
If it's a PNG with a transparent background, you need to either use a posterize filter or use less colors in the image
