I have been browsing youtube but it is not really doing it for me..

When I make a text on a sig I simply chose a font, write the text, add the colour I want and maybe smudge it a bit or add neon glow etc.
That is basicly what I know how to do, however people tell me not to add text on my sigs unless I know how to create better ones.
So please, link me tutorials on how to make texts that looks awesome!
I know there must be thousands of things you can do to change the look of a text no matter the font, I just don't know how to.

Don't put text in the corner of your tags
Don't make it too big or flashy or it'll distract from your focal, unless you want it to be your focal
Don't make it too complicated or fancy, just keep it simple (ie. no glow, drop shadow, emboss, etc)
