i would like to start making sigs. can anybody tell me best starter progra to use or any helpfull tips?

As far as programs, refer to the third post in that topic. There are many options out there and it really depends on your preference.
Gimp is a nice free alternative to a much better program such as PS.

Helpful tips also vary depending on what you're doing. My best advice is to stick with it and not to be discouraged. Work with the tutorials, challenge yourself daily, and take the constructive criticism that you may receive in order to further develop your skills.

Pretty sure that you can right click and then chose view image, allowing you to zoom in (depending on your browser).
