If i have an image with a white background as this one

Do i still need to do a render?

And for render is it normal it take me like over a hour to make one i'm starting to rage on my Gimp 2 -.-
Also if i want to put in to get in a sig but i don't want it to be too much large or long how do i do it?

If you're planning to use it as a render for a piece, then yes, you need to render it out. Not sure what you can do in Gimp, but i'm hoping there is a magic wand tool. Or use some tool with a color selective option and delete the white parts. Also if you want make it smaller, hold shift. As for where to place things, follow the rule of thirds as a guideline. If you can't do this in Gimp, get PS.
