how exactly do you do the square thing again?

I know about the drop shadow and border but how do you get the squares in there?

You have to make a transparent canvas

Separate what you want the squares/rectangles to be
edit -> stroke -> 1px black on each layer of the square/rectangle
then you can merge all of the layers, add text gm/pf/cb sharpen it and add some typo
