How come when I try to make a sig I just add a back round and render and when i look at the kb's its already at 56k.. I always save it as a PNG-24 file is this correct?

Thats the best as far as quality yes, but for people that care about kb size, they save it as jpeg.

Best thing to do is go to file > save for web and devices then save as jpeg high, maximum, whatever thatll make it under 70kb.
