These are C4D's
http://planetrenders.net/renders/thumbnails.php?album=1The 3D looking image to the right of the dude = C4D .

A C4D is an abstract render made to have dimension. You need a special program to create these, which is why many people just use C4D's that have already been created. You can find them everywhere at deviantart.com, or planetrenders.com, or even here on jsp. Using them requires practice. Basically, you want to open the C4D image and then resize / move it around on your canvas. You will need to erase parts that dont look right. Eventually, you will learn to distort and adjust the C4D layers with ease to get the effect you are looking for. Also note, you cant just slap any C4D on an image and have it look good. You will need adjustments, and some foresight on what effect you want out of it.
Try setting a C4D to "Screen" or "Multiply" under the layer menu, and playing with it. Also, practice altering the image using "Filter" -> "Liquify" to manipulate it into a whole new shape.
