I am just getting started.

I have enrolled in a photoshop class, and a flash class at the local college, which start at the end of this month, and I plan to keep taking more classes as I go.

I plan to upgrade my PC before then and was wondering what are the recommended system specs I should be looking for to run these types of programs and more advanced programs as I progress. I've already looked up the system requirements for photoshop and flash and compared them to towers on sale, but was wondering what people who do this recommend.

Also, what versions of photoshop and flash should I expect to get started on?

The last computer class I took in college was in 1989 and we didn't have these cool design programs back then.

Any advice, comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

quad or nothing. technology is evolving so fast, i suggest to choose something from i-series from intel for processor, depending how short you are on cash, mobo is important thing that value can vary alot. basically you can find a cheaper or expensive one but still go for new generation - DDR3 ram sockets, pci-e vcard socket (not new and there is no mobo for i-series processor with AGP socket(!?) anywaelieve 4 to 6 GB's RAM should do good for anything you will ever use your photoshop for. vcard is really up to your choice, if you are going into more serious design some day - like 3-dimensional modelling and animations - nvidia got special cards for you which cost hell alot but most likely will pay them back eventually. if you don't want to pay +2k$ for a vcard, you have also choice from regular ones, ati 4k and 5k series, nvidia 300 series or whatever you like. prices will vary also alot, ati is usually cheaper than nvidia in the end and depending from card, top-end gives better result also.

photoshop is free as it have always been - just know how to use google. photoshop cs3 or cs5 are ones i suggest, i'm not familiar with flash thou
