I think you could've stopped just before you added the curves adjustment, and instead used a little bit of Topaz on it.
The curves just made it too contrasted.

Seriously though, why would you make a tutorial from a sig you know is bad?

I did the tut while making the sig...

I did it for someone who used the same render so i did it :)
