Photoshop CS3 or CS4 - CS3 i use personally cause it was a lot cheaper and requires less resources from PC ..

GIMP is freeware but well, it doesn't get close to PS ..

Either one or another, there are loads of tutorials around internet for both..

Nah, I use it as well.

Ive tried all of them and cs2 is the best, imo.

Idk, for me, cs3 and cs2 feel quite the same -- i like them both but for unknown reason i have chosen cs3 to use..
