hello... i got 2 questions.

first, what file types save transparent backrounds? (i think .png does, but arnt there others too?)

also how can i fix 'eye shine' on a dog...



Thanks! if i can follow your advice to fix the eye shine and it looks good, there could be some shinny coins in it for ya

Use the duplicate tool for the eye.

And for the transparent background : Hide the white layer background clicking on the eye on the left of the layer.
Save it as .png :)

Gifs can have transparency aswell but you should go for png i think.

Gifs are used for saving moving pictures, also files saved in that format occupies less space.
