I'm wanting to Use gimp to create an blank image that has a transparent/invisible background and then type some text, so the text will APPEAR as if it's on w/e background the website i post it on has.

If it's anything like photoshop it will give you the option when creating a new canvas, either via drop box or check box.

Gimp doesn't give an option when creating a new image or atleast not afaik [From looking/browsing]

Try this.
It works in photoshop. not sure about gimp
Make sure there isnt a background to the signature and then save it as a .png or .gif
