In photoshop, when you're making a sig or something, and then after adding many layers and effects, you want to fix some lighting with dodge/burn, so you make a new layer and apply image so you can edit the lighting on everything right? but when you do this you lose the ability to arrange things if you decide to add another layer for text or something... is there any way to arrange after applying image? or once you use the apply image function everything has to be the way you want it...?

Shit, that made no sense, tell me if you can understand what i'm trying to ask

no you cant really change anything after you apply image unless you delete it, fix w/e you want on the below layers, then reapply the image. but then you'd have to redo the lighting.

ctrl + shift + n <-- new layer
apply image
make changes to ur new layer
click on lighting layer -- or w/e layer u want
ctrl + j <-- copies the layer
move that layer in front of applied image.

thats the best advice i can give... then you can erase the top layer, or change the fill, or w/e u want so that u can still see the applied image changes, but can also move the stuff on the bottom around.

... of course this only works to a certain degree... you can't completely move an object anymore.

im not entirely sure what youre talking about but maybe something i say will help. you should never flatten your working file into a single layer. assuming your image isnt one layer you should be able to move all layers just by dragging it around. if you cant drag move staff then check to see if auto select is on(top left of your upper tools bar when you have black arrow selected). if you have auto select on you need to turn it off otherwise its going to grab groupings or objects you actually click on and if you have alot of crap on top you wont be able to click lower layers. also i really cant stress how important learning to use masks properly is. also if you youre applying layer adjustments like brightness/contrast/levels/etc use the layer adjustment button on your layers palete as it applies the effects with masks not permanently so you can adjust settings and how much of image it is applied to as well as opacity.
