Hey, I'm going to start making signatures/avatars, uh, I already started i mean, but I always fail when I want to make a signature, I can find renders, etc.
Problem is I can't do background, use c4d/filters correctly, I downloaded some smudge brushes, and was about to make smudge signature:

1 layer - background - gradient/or just white background
2 layer - render
3 layer - duplicated render - I wanted to brush it a bit, then I've set it to overlay, and it just looked like a shit.

Uh, that's all I guess, I'll be glad if can help me Just don't send me to tutorials, I need hints from experienced graphic users.

Just try different tutorials - find the one you are the best at and master it.
Keep on working on different styles, try adding something new each time you make another tag.
I always repeat "a signature without a font is better then a signature with a bad one"
