Yes, the photoshop trial version should have everything the original one has.
Make sure you switch to the paint bucket tool on your panel.

You can try out gimp, it's okay.

you may have the gradient tool instead - which is keybinded G.
just right-click the gradient tool & choose paint bucket instead. same for other tools such as lasso.

ya i finally use that tool yesterday and saw the paint bucket XD
